Still in awe thinking we actually crossed the Atlantic in a sailboat.
I was journaling during our passage, and the below is from our last night:
- Happy that the rocking will be over soon – but sad that this incredible experience is coming to an end.
- Started the new day with my favored walking healing meditation, followed by tapping and listening to my audiobook.
- After my shift was over, got woken up at 8 a.m. as they wanted to put the parasail up – decided against it because of too much wind.
- Then the wind went down, and we put the parasail up – Marcus wanted to make it extra interesting and put the sheet under the stanchion, and I forgot then in the hectic to hold on to the dousing line, which got wrapped up on the top bucket of the parasail.
- Made for an exciting feeling when we were thinking about how we will manage to take it down.
- We had to take the parasail down early due to incoming squalls – so grateful that it came down relatively easy.
Most scary moments
- Hanging on for dear life in the dark while taking down the parasailor. It was pitch black, windy, and rolling seas—a terrifying yet unforgettable experience.
- When we had total instrument blackout because the instrument battery was not charging and another time somebody pressed the wrong button to turn off all instruments… both times on my watch…
Most beautiful moment
So many…
- Dolphins dancing joyfully around our boat.
- Quiet watches under the moon and stars, soaking in sunsets and sunrises.
- Practicing mindfulness, Chi Gong, and reading while feeling like VIPs under the bimini.
- Finding creative ways to continue my workouts despite the rocking.
Most exciting moment
- Almost had also to drive the boat with stars only (the compass has no lights, and we needed a moment to find the headlights… the problem was the bimini was up, and we hardly could see any stars).
Most romantic moment
- Marcus organizing a special drink and special sunset place on the boat – never will forget ❤️
Biggest relieve moment
- When the extensive rocking stopped, and I could sleep again.
Proudest moment
- Me driving the boat with compass only and that after our skipper Paul talking to me about how to channel fear to focus, how focused I got taking the parasailor down and up.
This trip felt like an inspirational sailing retreat—a digital detox, a chance to reflect, and a reminder of what I want more of in life: staying organized, committed to workouts and mindfulness, and letting go of the small worries. Crossing the Atlantic wasn’t just an adventure; it was a journey of growth and discovery.

Merry Christmas, Marcus! I’ve been following your sailing stories about crossing the Atlantic, and it’s amazing how you and Jolanda embraced the whole experience—from handling the parasail to finding moments of peace under the stars. Wishing you a new year filled with even more unforgettable moments!
Thank you so much, Vessi! We hope you’re having a great end of this year. Looking forward to catching up in the new year!
