Info: Quite a few squalls to distract from our power issues! 2 of them hit us with 35kts! The others high 20s.
We’ve now entered an area with a high likelihood of squalls—quickly developing rainstorms that bring strong winds and move rapidly. This morning, we encountered one with winds reaching around 35 knots. Thankfully, all sails were already reefed, and Paul, our skipper, expertly kept the boat on a steady course. We’re closely monitoring the radar for any new developments in the area. The rolling of the boat has become more intense, which is quite uncomfortable. Although we filmed a short video, it doesn’t fully capture the severity. Most importantly, everyone must remain clipped in at all times for safety.
On the bright side, we finally pinpointed the cause of our power issue. After tracing all the cables, we discovered a faulty switch. I bridged the wires, and everything is now back to normal—what a relief! On the downside, the crew found an unwelcome visitor on board. In the early hours, we spotted a cockroach. The entire kitchen is now being thoroughly inspected to ensure there aren’t any more.
For the rest of the day, Jolanda got creative and made kneepads using a yoga mat and some old socks. We also enjoyed an instant Thai Curry we brought from the US—it tasted surprisingly good and was perfect for rough seas when cooking isn’t practical. Just add hot water to the bag and wait 20 minutes!
