This year, my sister-in-law decided to celebrate her 50th birthday on the same day as my own special day and the anniversary day when my beautiful husband and I met. Naturally, my husband will be there to celebrate with her, but I asked myself, “What should I do?”
I remembered that my wonderful friend, Roe dreamed of attending a women’s yoga and hiking retreat. I thought, why not turn this birthday into something meaningful? So, I reached out to Roe and asked, “Remember that retreat you always wanted to go to? How about we do it for my birthday?” Her excitement was instant, and with a joyful “Yes!”, our adventure began.
We found the perfect retreat—yoga and hiking led by Terry at The House of Rose. It was just what we needed.
The retreat was more than I could have imagined. We started our days with peaceful yoga sessions that left us feeling like flexible goddesses, and we spent the afternoons hiking through nature, tubing, and connecting with other incredible women. Roe added a touch of sparkle to the weekend with the most adventurous mimosas I’ve ever tasted, talks, walks and birthday celebrations.
One of the best parts? I decided to go completely off the grid. I switched my phone to airplane mode and let go of all the noise—no social media, no emails, just pure, unfiltered presence. It was heavenly.
This retreat didn’t just make for an unforgettable birthday—it inspired me to make some life-changing decisions:
- Saying Goodbye to Social Media: I realized how much better life feels without endless scrolling. So, I deleted all my social media apps on my phone.
- Creating a Phone-Free Zone: I decided to keep my phone out of the bedroom, turning that space into a sanctuary for sleep and, well, other lovely activities.
- Revamping My Wellness Routine: I started a new program with strength training five to 6 times a week and more protein in my diet led by Terry.
After just 6 weeks of these changes, I feel stronger, healthier, and more centered than ever. And now, I have a beautiful birthday story—one that’s all about choosing to nourish my soul in a way that’s differently wonderful.
