Jolanda was so excited to hear that her best Singaporean friend’s Father-in-Law Paul was coming to New York. We have celebrated with him, Jolanda’s friend Nora and their families Christmas in Western Australia many moons ago and they have attended our wedding in Switzerland. He has a brother he wanted to visit in Fire Island and Marcus always wanted the opportunity to visit Fire Island with our boat.
Fire Island, located on the ocean side of Long Island, has long been on our bucket list. Before setting off, we received plenty of advice on how to navigate the shallow canal and make the trip.
The journey itself was quite a challenge, as we were quickly reminded that the open ocean can be unpredictable, with waves not always coming from the ideal direction. By the time we arrived, our kitchen definitely needed a little tidying up!
Lots of adventures on Fire Island… bicycle riding, BBQ on our friends porch, enjoying to take Paul and his brother and his partner on a boat cruise, running to explore the island, watching the most spectacular sunsets – see the sunset pictures where the Island gets his name from.
