After a long journey, we made it to Grenada—crew and sailboat intact. It felt like a significant accomplishment for all of us. Jolanda and I want to extend our sincere thanks to Weed and Paul for bringing us along on this incredible adventure, and to the ARC team for their excellent organization. We capped it off with a wonderful farewell celebration dinner.
After adjusting motoring hours and handicap we placed first in our class and top 5 overall monohull:
On the day of the prize-giving celebration, we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ewan, the skipper of Coconut, which placed second in our category. He succumbed to a medical condition, leaving us all grieving and thinking of his young family. Ewan was a highly accomplished sailor, well-known and respected within the sailing community. His blog, Sailing Coconut, beautifully captures the adventures he shared with his family.
We spent a few extra days in Grenada to explore the island. During our stay, we joined one of the Hash House Harriers runs—known as “the drinking club with a running problem.” We also went on a beach run of our own. Eventually, it was time to head home. We boarded the most expensive flight we’ve ever purchased and braced ourselves for the colder weather awaiting us.
Once back home, we took a few days to recover before driving up to New Hampshire to surprise our friend Roe for her birthday and to pick up Luna from our friends Shelly and Erik, who had kindly cared for her while we were away. We also did some cross country skiing and did our first uphill skiing with our friends including a fondue dinner. Thanks so much Shelly and Erik.
We had the joy to have a beautiful White Christmas Week in New York , instead of hosting our famous White Elephant Christmas Party, we went with the flow and celebrated with small mostly spontanous gatherings
To round up the wonderful 2024 we flew to Switzerland to celebrate New Years Eve with our friend Michaela and her family in Thurgau Switzerland
We hope everyone had a joyous holiday season. As the year comes to an end, we take a moment to reflect on the cherished memories and valuable lessons it brought.
