ARC+ Day 5 – Arriving in Cape Verde

First here is the morning briefing from our captain:

Boat Name: Isabel
Position: N17’17.7 W024’33.6
Wind: NNE 15 kts
Sea State: Light Swell
Info: Parasailing….
Running water maker to arrive in Mindelo with full tank. All good on board, some crew not overly impressed with showering restriction!!

After a beautiful sunrise, everyone gathered on deck to hoist the Parasailor. With the wind easing, it was easy to get the sail up, and we flew toward the finish line, holding our position—2nd in our division and within the Top 10 for monohulls. Taking down the sail after crossing the finish line was a bit of an adventure, but we took our time, ending up with only a few blisters on our hands.

Unfortunately, the marina assigned us a slip that was supposed to be deep enough, but we ended up grounding three times before finally tying up. I’ll be following up on that, as we’re planning to dive down tomorrow morning to check for any damage to the keel. The marina staff was very welcoming, and we settled in quickly. I finally had my first beer, and for dinner, we found a nice local restaurant. We were all exhausted and went to bed early, enjoying the luxury of sleeping in without setting an alarm.
