Info: Vigorously defending our stand on vessel status to the 902ft tanker Dilong Spirit. All well on board!
Today was a great day of sailing. We were fortunate to keep our sails up while others had to resort to motoring. In this race, motoring is allowed, but it comes with a penalty. We spent most of the day trying to determine the minimum sailing speed we can maintain before needing to motor without incurring a significant disadvantage. Unfortunately, we’re unsure of our exact position in the race since we don’t know if or how long other boats have used their engines. In addition every boat has a differnet handicap depending on size and sails. For now, we’re not focusing too much on our current standing (at least Jolanda and I).
The formula for calculating the Corrected time is:
Corrected Time = (Elapsed Time + (Engine Hours x Engine Hour Factor)) x Time Correction Factor (Handicap)
With just 10-12 knots of wind, we decided it was a good opportunity to try some drone photography. Admittedly, we already suspected there was a slim chance of successfully landing the drone back on the boat. Nevertheless, brave Paul launched it, captured some shots of the boat, and then lost sight of it. We watched as the drone disappeared into the sunset, never to be seen again—probably the most expensive photos of the boat ever taken!
Other boats took the opportunity to fish and we received reports from a Japanese Boat: “2 tuna & a big bonito! – tons of sushi on board“
After a relaxing day of sailing, I received the exciting news that my favorite football club, Eintracht Frankfurt, secured 2nd place in the Bundesliga. We ended the day with a lovely dinner together, enjoying the sunset.
